Sunshine Challenge Prompt #5: Blue

Blue has always been associated with sadness, hopelessness, and depression for me. It's a color I associate with being judged (often unfairly) as well. So here's a poem about a time that embodies those feelings for me.

"The Blues"

Blue shirt,
Navy pants.
A blue uniform,
For a school built on blue feelings.
Sky above,
From periwinkle to sapphire--
You are no shield from
Summer sun
Or man enraged.
Rake once,
Then twice,
Twist and load.
Feathers shimmer
With a sheen of midnight blue.
Stumble,
Fall.
Blue shirt,
Navy pants.
Prisoners’ garb--
To match the marks inscribed.
